trip down Surabaya...

i spent last weekend in my birth-town Surabaya, East Java... it was Indonesia's second largest city after Jakarta...

the main reason why i was there, is because my cousin Mirza is getting married... other than the fact that he is my cousin, he's also the family's grease monkey... he's the man to go to when it comes to old parts and goodies, both American and Japanese cars... so i guess, it's going to be an interesting trip..

but, first thing first.. the other main reason: FOOD... and i'm starving...!!
me and my parents went to this restaurant called "Cafesera" which serves multiple East Java cuisine... so i start with Semanggi as an apetizer.. named after its main ingredients, its a steamed Semanggi (clover leaves) with some bean sprout on top, covered with sauce made of cassava, a little bit of nut, garlic, shallot, chilli, and other spices... served with Krupuk Gendar (that huge yellow cracker) which also used as the spoon to scoop the goodies...
moving on to the main course, Kupang Lontong.. rice cakes served with soup of tiny shell fish with some shrimp paste.. oh, did you noticed the gigantic Lemonade in the background..?? perfect to wash the thirst away...
desert come in the way of Madura style Poridge.. multiple treats made of glutinous rice and flours, covered in thick coconut sauce, then topped with palm sugar simple syrup... i failed my diet that night, but fully packed for the excitement...
that's Mirza on the left with a '73 Corolla he's working on, and our friend Gempur on his Honda CB 125... we chatted a lot that night, i forgot to take picture of Mirza's Honda Life... his latest project for his soon-to-be wife... so much for a bachelor party, Mirza ask us if we want to check out the local bike scene that night.. well, he got a big nod from all of us...
we went down to Monumen Bambu Runcing (the slash cut bamboo monument) and look what the locals have to offer... many old bikes showed up that night...
line-ups of Brits...

and this gorgeous BMW at the end of the line... the crowd was awesome... i haven't got the chance to check the Japanese line-ups on the other side of the street, and its starting to rain... we gotta end the trip and Mirza gotta big prep to do for his big day...
